Can The 35% Room Discount Be Applied To A 2021 Booking?
Guide 15-Jun-2020
I'm afraid not.
If you booked your 2020 Walt Disney World holiday in 2019, you might have taken advantage of the free dining offer if it was beneficial to you. Sadly, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Disney has cancelled all Disney dining plans as they begin to reopen their parks with lower capacity.
You might be scratching your head and thinking to yourself how Disney can just pull an offer like that from a booking. Well, technically, they can. However, they would be breaking consumer laws if they didn't allow you to cancel and get a full refund, and as expected, that's exactly what they've done. Your (direct through Disney) booking for stays up until October 3rd (which is when the free dining was offered until) is eligible for cancellation and a full refund. You can also use what you've paid (including your deposit) towards a new 2021 date. Some travel agents like TUI (at the time of writing) have not yet adopted this policy, but they likely will very soon.
For those who still want to travel in 2020, and because the free dining plan you signed up for is no longer available, Disney is offering 35% off the room portion of your holiday. You can see our invoice adjustment below to give you an idea how it looks. The booking was for 3 weeks at Animal Kingdom Lodge for September 2020 for 2 adults.
Many people have asked us, and incorrectly assumed, they can cancel their 2020 holiday (that had free dining) and book a 2021 holiday with that 35% discount. Sadly, that is not the case. The 35% discount is simply to make up for the fact the free dining was pulled on 2020 dates. While Disney didn't have to offer a 35% discount, they do have to give you the option to cancel for a full refund because they pulled an offer you signed up for, which they are doing if you don't want to go this year. Also, the 35% discount is only applied to bookings that had the free dining. If your 2020 booking did not have a free dining offer, your 2020 booking is not eligible for the 35% discount.
