There's been a long rumoured new theme park coming to Kent for years now- I think even some actual plans have been made! When new information about this theme park surfaces, the use of the word "Disney" is always present. That's simply to generate attention for it. Back in 2019, I called the media out for calling it "The UK Disneyland". Not only is is completely wrong, but it genuinely has confused people thinking there a Disney theme park being built in the UK.
Embarrassingly for me, even my local paper got in on the action with an article titled "First look at £3.5 billion 'UK Disney World' theme park". Which included quotes like:
"New pictures show stunning plans for the UK version of Disneyland which is set to open in the South East.";
"The theme park, which is due to open in five years time, is set to rival Disney World in terms of scale."
Did your palm just reach your face as well?
Is there a theme park resort near Kent being planned? Yes. Has it got anything to do with Disney or the Walt Disney Company? No. Has it been riddled with problems and unlikely to see the light of day? Who's to say. Reports from a couple of years ago said it would begin opening in 2024, and considering it took Disney 6 years to build Tron, and is taking Universal 5 years to build it's upcoming Epic Universe theme park, I'm not convinced we're going to see anything here in 2024. I am ready to be proved wrong, of course.
Fun fact, the UK was considered back in the late 80's as a potential for a Disneyland, but of course the Walt Disney Company settled on Paris for their European theme park location. Partially because the UK was lacking a suitable expanse of flat land, and France offered favourable finance deals to Disney as well as Paris being a good central location in Western Europe.
Bottom line, there is no Disney theme park coming to the UK.
