Disney Offering Gift Cards For Reduced Housekeeping
News 18-Sep-2017
When we checked into Pop Century recently, we were given an option that caught us a little off guard. We were told that if we were to opt out of having daily "mouse keeping" we would be rewarded with a gift card to spend in the parks.
It perked my interest of course, and I asked to know more about it.
If you choose to opt out, you will receive one full mouse keeping service half way through your stay, and that's it. You can of course call house keeping to order fresh towels as often as you want, but you won't get your beds changed, rubbish bags emptied, toiletries replenished etc magically when you go back to your room.
This is an obvious cost cutting experiment Disney are trying out. They want to know if people can live without regular mouse keeping and in return (for now) getting a gift card, which costs them less than the wages they pay the staff.
For a 14 night stay, we were offered a $130 gift card. After thinking about it, we declined. It's part of the luxury of a holiday to come back to a fresh room after a long sweaty day in the parks, and $130 doesn't quite make up for that. I have also have never had a bad experience with any of the mouse keeping staff we've had service our rooms, and it is sad to see Disney are trying to cut their hours.
