In a huge relief for travellers and the travel industry, new COVID-19 testing rules have changed. For arrivals back in England starting October 24th, 2021, fully vaccinated citizens now only have to take a LFT test instead of a pricey PCR test when returning to England. LFT tests must be privately purchased tests for travel - you cannot use the free NHS tests. The UK government has published a list of providers, and we are going to use Project Screen for our upcoming Disneyland Paris trip, as they're the company Disney used for their Magic At Sea sailings and we had a good experience with them. We'll review the process when we return.
If you're not fully vaccinated, you must still pay and take a PCR up to 3 days before returning to England, and arrange both day 2 and day 8 PCR tests at your expense (these tests generally cost around £70 each, so you're looking at around £210 per person to travel right now unvaccinated). If you are fully vaccinated, you're only required to do an LFT on day 2 of your return (these tests generally cost £25). Full guidance is available on the UK GOV website.
You must book your test before you travel, so they're at home ready waiting for you when you return to complete by day 2.
