Disney Officially Reverses $3 Fuel Rod Swap Charge
It is official. Disney, for the time being, will not be charging guests $3 to swap their Fuel Rod at Disney Parks.
Disney were planning to start charging guests $3 to swap their "Fuel Rod". Fuel Rods are dispensed at a machine and used to charge your phone. After use, you return, or swap, the empty Fuel Rod for another fully charged one. These cost $30 up-front and are advertised as "free unlimited swapping". Last week, signs went up on these machines introducing a new charge for $3 for each swap staring November 1, 2019. Guests were outraged after buying a product that was advertised as free unlimited swapping, to then be told they'll have to pay. The news of this resulted in a class action lawsuit totalling $5million in damages due to the potential of false advertising if this went live.
Disney has released an official statement in regards to the Fuel Rods.
"A decision has been made to not implement the $3 portable charger swap fee until further notice. Guests can continue to swap their FuelRod portable chargers using FuelRod’s owned and operated kiosks at Walt Disney World Resort for no additional cost at this time."
