Media across the web is having a field day with headlines such as "ALL SUMMER HOLIDAYS CANCELLED" or "TAKE A SUMMER HOLIDAY AND YOU WILL GO TO JAIL!!!" or "5 GRAND FINE IF YOU LEAVE THE COUNTRY OMG SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN".
Okay, I got a bit carried away, but let's get real here. New legislation that is due to come into force on March 29, restricts travel out of the UK without a 'reasonable excuse'. Anyone who breaks these rules could face a £5,000 fine. Sadly, going to Walt Disney World is not a reasonable excuse.
The legislation dictates that restrictions must be reviewed by April 12th, and then every 35 days thereafter. This law expires on June 30th. However, this law can be amended scrapped entirely at any time.
This is just the formalisation of the roadmap out of lockdown PM Boris Johnson announced last month. The dates match up with what was already announced, as the release stated that May 17th was earliest date for international travel (subject to review) which is 35 days after the April 12th date (described above). Depending on that outcome will determine whether intentional travel (maybe not to Europe at the moment, though) can resume or restrictions have to remain in place until the law expires on June 30th.
