Josh D'Amaro Touches On The Cost Of Visiting Disney Parks In New Interview
News - WDW 27-Jun-2023
Scott Mayerowitz (via The Points Guy) interviewed Disney Parks chairman Josh D'Amaro and asked about pricing at the parks. While Josh D'Amaro mentioned that there are more park days now available at the lower price points (which doesn't really apply to us Brits as we have the fantastic Magic Tickets), he touches on the point that D'Amaro has the difficult task of juggling the conflicting goals of creating profits for shareholders and making a Disney vacation affordable.
"We have to have options for guests," D’Amaro says. "I want to make sure there are as many choices presented to you as simply as they can be. You could stay at a value resort if you choose to, or you could stay at the Grand Floridian or the Grand Californian if you'd like to."
Scott also mentions to Josh D'Amaro that:
The Walt Disney Company eliminated self-parking fees for Disney World hotel guests, a 4-year-old charge that angered many Disney fans. It represented the beginning of a multiyear era that removed some previous inclusions, such as the Magical Express bus and MagicBands, and saw the addition of new add-on charges like Genie+ and Lightning Lanes.
To which Josh D’Amaro replied:
It’s a balancing act. If the price is too low, lines will be unbearable, souring the experience for all. But if it is too high, the parks become inaccessible for a large share of the population.
“I'll repeat the same thing I said before: We don't always get it right.
When Bob Iger returned as CEO this year, he admitted that Disney Parks had got too expensive. With Bob's statement and Josh's interview today, we'll have to wait and see what happens in regards to pricing.
