The Travel Testing Changes Starting January 7th 2022
News - Travel 05-Jan-2022
If you missed the excitement yesterday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced changes to the travel testing requirements that come into force starting 4am 7th January, 2022.
Day 2 PCR now LFT again
The day 2 return test was reverted back to PCR before the surge of Omicron, but now that pricey travel test is no longer required. You are now once again only required to take an LFT test on day 2. (This is the day 2 LFT that'll be required.) You also no longer need to self-isolate waiting for your result (although with LFT this isn't relevant anymore because the results are instant). If you test positive on your day 2 LFT, you can then go get a free PCR to confirm.
Pre-departure test scrapped
The pre-departure test when returning to England has now been scrapped altogether. This will be a huge relief to many travellers, not just because of the reduced cost of testing, but removing the fear of testing positive before departing and having to isolate abroad.
Our testing and travel guides have been updated to take into account this change.
