The much-loved Disney dining plan was discontinued back in 2020 at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was cancelled because Disney could not guarantee that guests would have the opportunity to use credits while they were running the parks at a lower capacity. Even though we're not back to normal yet, people are still asking the question when will the Disney dining plan return?
We know many of you are also wondering when Disney dining plan packages will return. While we’re not quite ready to share an update on timing, we are planning to bring this guest-favorite option back at a later date.
We can breathe a sigh of relief that it will be making a return, but the question will remain on whether it will return in the form it left us. However, other tweaks like dining reservations can now only be made up to 60 days before rather than 180 is something I hope stays.
Disney was hoping to bring back the Disney dining plan in 2021, booking for 2022 - their website hinted as such - but the COVID-19 pandemic continued on longer than we all hoped.
The pandemic still isn't over, and while restrictions at the parks have been easing, we're not back to normal and full capacity yet. Disney will likely not reinstate the Disney dining plan until that point, which could be quite a wait.
Another sign that the Disney dining plan isn't due to come back quite yet, is that the free dining offer for 2022 is in the form of a free dining credit. Where you can get credit - like a gift card - to spend on dining locations at Walt Disney World.
