Thomas Cook has collapsed and all bookings have been cancelled. While this is a stressful time, if you were ATOL protected or have the proper travel insurance, you should get your money back. It will likely be a lengthy and inconvenient process, and you will need some patience.
Many people are still panicking about their now cancelled Disney World holiday booked with Thomas Cook and how to get the money back.
First make sure your holiday is actually cancelled. Check with your agent or call Disney to double check. If you booked your holiday direct through Disney and added Thomas Cook flights, only your flights will be cancelled. If you booked your entire package through Thomas Cook, the whole package is cancelled. click here for more information.
You’ll be able to claim a refund starting 30th September for cancelled your ATOL protected holiday
If that fails (which is unlikely) you can file a chargeback through your bank or claim on your travel insurance. A lot of people are panicking and going straight to card providers, and while there is some success, majority of people are told claim through ATOL first when it opens up.
If you’ve booked flight only, you are not ATOL protected and need to claim through your card provider or travel insurance.
Disney will not let you take over your bookings made via Thomas Cook. Assume all is cancelled and they’ll be removed from your My Disney Experience soon. You’re free to rebook with Disney and add flights later.
I know it can be stressful, even more so if you’re due to travel soon and cannot get a replacement holiday due to flight price spikes, but getting your money back shouldn’t be an issue, it’ll just take some time and patience. Our next September honeymoon is cancelled, so we’ll rearrange that soon, and I hope yours can be too, especially as the free dining offer is still on, and with all the cancelled rooms Disney will allocate back out into the wild to be sold again.
