How Many Characters?!
One of the many things that make Disney cruises stand out from other cruises is, of course, the Disney characters. You'll be excited to know that there are over 30 characters onboard the Disney Magic for the Magic At Sea staycation cruises. With no thanks to COVID, we can't go and hug our favourite Disney characters just yet, but there are bundles of opportunities for selfies. Disney has made up for the lack of person-to-character contact with the addition of all these characters, as well as many surprise moments that can happen on your voyage.
There's Costume Changes, Too!
While I would count my favourite duck, Donald, as one character on the ship, you do actually see a few of the characters - including Donald - in several different outfits throughout the cruise. Just Donald alone I personally counted seeing him in 4 different costumes. There's plenty to watch out for. I caught a glimpse of sailor Goofy just walking around.
The Captains
The first two characters you see are Captain Mickey and Captain Minnie when you embark. As I said in my Magic At Sea Disney Cruise - Overall Review article, it was super emotional seeing these two again after what has felt like so long. It go to my even more as I didn't expect to turn the corner and see them both waving at me. They do a little welcome show, and then you're free to explore the ship or make your way to your room.
Marvel Day
Day 2 of your cruise is Marvel-themed! This means Marvel characters, and even more amusingly, the fab-5 dressed in Marvel-inspired outfits. Starting with the Marvel characters, you'll see Spiderman, Black Panther, Thor, Captain Marvel, and more. They're usually roaming around the Atrium and sometimes in the lounges when game shows are not on.
As I said earlier, you'll see the fab-5 dressed in Marvel-inspired outfits as well. I caught them in the Buena Vista Theatre, but they can pop up anywhere!
Princesses
For those guests who enjoy the presence of royalty, there are five different princesses onboard. I only ever saw them in the Atrium. I doubt they want to go outside and get their beautiful dresses all dirty. Rapunzel does show up in the Atrium as well, but you will see her when eating at Rapunzel's Royal Table.
Your Favourite Disney Pals
Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Pluto, Goofy, the chipmunks, and Daisy. You'll be seeing a lot of these guys. Here's a selection.
The Surprise Element
The characters on the ship could pop up at any time and any place. They could appear out on the decks, in-between game shows in places like the D-Lounge, in the Buena Vista Theatre when there are no movies showing, just walking around in the ship. There will usually always be some variety of characters in the Atrium (which can be accessed on Deck 3, 4, and 5). They can even show up in some game shows at the end to thunderous applause.
Get Selfies
You can take selfies with characters behind you. If you want any specific poses or the specific attention of the characters (if it's busy, remember they are entertaining everyone) just signal to the nearby cast member that you're trying to take a selfie and they'll alert the characters to you. Don't be shy!
