Review: Mickey Mouse Club Collection Collectable Figures #1 January 2022
Review - Plush 09-Jan-2022
It's been a hot minute since I've written a review on a Disney merchandise product. The last review I wrote was on the Mickey Memories collection throughout 2018. I loved that collection, and even though it was an absolute pain trying to navigate shopDisney at 8 am one morning a month, I managed to get the full collection. Because of how much I loved that collection, my interest was peaked when a new monthly Mickey plush was announced for 2022. The style is similar to the Mickey Memories collection, so I jumped onto Amazon and pre-ordered one to review.
This new collection isn't made for shopDisney like Mickey Memories was, it's made by a toy company called "Simba", who have licensed this collection from Disney and is selling them every month on Amazon. It is legit, as Disney has been advertising it on their social media pages. Each month they'll be a new Mickey to collect.
For the first Mickey in the collection for January, he's gold! As I've said, the style is similar to the Mickey Memories plush, but on this collection his head is a little bigger, sort of like the design of the Funko pop figures. He comes attached to his box (I have yet to cut him out) and has a certificate of authenticity, and the box has an official Disney-licensed hologram sticker on it. The quality of the plush is maybe just a tad less than the Mickey Memories, and even though he is around the same height, because of his body shape, it feels like there's less to this collectible in the hand.
It comes in a smart black box, but unfortunately, it's quite a low-quality shoe box. Depending on how rough-handed your Amazon driver is, it will probably be dented. The product photos do make the box appear thicker and sturdier than it is, but it's quite thin and flimsy. The design of the box is nice, but it almost looks tacky and not something you want on display as it'll look a bit like a shelf in a shoe shop.
This plush costs £30.99. The Mickey Memories plush was £25 each month, but I'm not naive to think they wouldn't be any less than £30 if they were available throughout 2022. While I think the price is probably about right, it's a real shame about the quality of the box. It's also a big plus that you can just order it on Amazon when they come available, and you don't have to deal with shopDisney crashing at 8 am. I am undecided whether I'll buy the whole collection each month, I'll wait and see what the design for February will look like.
