BREAKING: France Closes Borders To UK Tourists Again
News - Travel 16-Dec-2021
France opened their borders to UK travellers a few months ago to fully vaccinated guests (of which we took advantage of and had a delightful Disneyland Paris trip), but sadly that's now been reversed.
Gutting news for those with Disneyland Paris bookings this month, the French government (via the Telegraph) has just announced new travel restrictions for UK travellers starting December 18th.
All travellers - whether vaccinated or not - need a compelling reason to enter the country, and a holiday is not one. This compelling reason rule was previously in place for unvaccinated travellers, now it applies to everyone. A PCR test is needed within 24 hours for those returning to France, and you must self isolate for 48 hours after arrival. This new rule also makes it unviable for UK holiday goers, even if the compelling reason rule wasn't in place.
France will beef up controls on travellers arriving from Britain, government spokesman Gabriel Attal said on Thursday, after infections linked to the omicron coronavirus variant rose in the United Kingdom.
He told BFM television that the measures, to be unveiled by the prime minister's office later on Thursday, will include reducing the validity of PCR tests to 24 hours from 48 hours for travellers arriving from Britain and restricting entry to essential reasons for French nationals or residents.
There will also be a 7-day isolation period for those arriving, which can be reduced to 48 hours if an individual returns a negative test.
