Disney Springs Brightline Train Station Stop Scrapped
News - WDW 28-Jun-2022
Orlando Business Journal is reporting that Disney has Walt Disney World train station stop on the upcoming Brightline route has been scrapped. Brightline announced in 2019 that they will be building a new high-speed train route direct from Orlando International Airport to the south of Florida. One of the stops on the original plans was Disney Springs. With the scrapping of Disney's Magical Express, some guests were looking forward to a new fast and direct way to get from the airport to Walt Disney World, but that appears to no longer be going ahead.
A representative with Disney confirmed to Orlando Business Journal that the plans for a station, announced in 2019, to connect to the multibillion-dollar Brightline project are no more. "As many people who are involved in this project are aware, the new route configuration does not support a Disney Springs station and as a result, we don't anticipate being part of this project," Disney spokesperson Avery Maehrer told Orlando Business Journal.
Orlando Business Journal says the reason for this is due to a route change from the original plans due to heavy criticism from multiple local parties. The new route is going to go through more tourist areas, which includes Universal Orlando, who pledged to donate 13 acres of land to the project for a stop near their upcoming theme park, Epic Universe.
This $2.7 billion project, which consists of a 170-miles of new track that will connect Orlando to the south of Florida is roughly 80% complete and expected to start taking passengers in 2023.
