The New York Times published an article today explaining how Disney is spending more money on investing in the parks than it did on buying Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm combined.
Some good tidbits include:
- CEP Bob Iger saying that a seventh Disney park was "an inevitability". - Future World at Epcot is to be overhauled and possibly called "Future Showcase". - Star Wars: Galaxies Edge will include two attractions. The first will let guests pilot an interactive Millennium Falcon, and the second is a lavish attraction, guests will board an Imperial Star Destroyer, where roughly 50 animatronic stormtroopers await in formation. - On changing beloved rides: "Beloved as they may be, these properties are businesses, and Disney must be mindful of relevance. Parents may have a soft spot for Epcot’s creaky, 36-year-old Spaceship Earth ride, but their children — Disney customers of the future — most likely do not."
One major find on this article is the suggestion that the Aerosmith themed Rock 'N' Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios will be getting a re-theming (as you can see on number 5.)
EDIT: Disney has confirmed however that the NYT reporter made a mistake.
The article is an interesting read which you can check out here.
