Health Secretary Matt Hancock appeared on ITV's This Morning and said:
Do we now all have to come to the conclusion that summer is essentially cancelled, holidays are cancelled, it will be unlike any summer we've had since the First World War? I think that'll likely be the case, yeah, we haven't made a final decision on that yet, but it is clear that we will seek to reopen hospitality from early July if we keep reducing the spread of the virus, but I think social distancing of some kind will happen for some time, and the conclusion of that means it's unlikely that big lavish international holidays are going to be possible for this summer, I just think that's a reality.
While this isn't an official announcement that all summer holidays are now cancelled, it gives a glimpse into what the governments international flight and travel restrictions could look and what rules will be in place over the summer. With the UK requiring a 14 day self-isolation for all people coming into the country, this policy still might be adopted by other countries, which would make holidays unable to go ahead in the near future.
