The BBC is reporting that Virgin Atlantic is going to cut around 3,000 jobs in the UK and end its operation at Gatwick Airport. Gatwick is one of the two UK airports (the other being Manchester) that Virgin Atlantic run their Orlando flights. British Airways has hinted at the same, but have yet to make an announcement.

Virgin Atlantic has announced it is to cut around 3,000 jobs in the UK and end its operation at Gatwick airport. Virgin Atlantic, which is in the process of applying for emergency loans from the government, also plans to reduce the size of its fleet of aircraft from 45 to 35 by the summer of 2022. It hopes to restore about 60% of its pre-pandemic flying capacity by the end of 2020.

However, the landing slots at Gatwick are to be retained, the company said, in case future demand allowed its operations to resume.
