We review the Star Wars dessert party at Hollywood Studios for 2018. We attended this party mid-September 2018.
The Star Wars dessert party takes place most nights at Hollywood Studios. You check in at a pop desk just outside of the Launch Bay and are handed a Star Wars lanyard that you can wear with pride. A little better than the wristbands we were given last year.
This year appears to be much more organised. Each party has already been assigned a table with a table number. When you enter the eating area, you meet a cast member who will direct you to your table. On the tables there were light up table numbers, along with something new this year, a designated time to meet Kylo Ren.
Last year, no meet-or-greets were included in the party, although you were only across the hall from them. Each table was given a designated time you could go over to get photos with Kylo Ren with no wait. He was a little creepy and awkward as I couldn't really tell what he wanted us to do, but it was a giggle nonetheless. I asked if he wanted a hug, but he didn't go for it.
A big complaint last year was that it was all standing. Now all the tables have seating, and it really makes a difference. The food is mostly different this year, although the frozen Nutella and giant bread pudding cake remain (thankfully). There is a good selection, and none of it was too sickly.
The atmosphere feels a lot better this time, too. With Star Wars music playing in the background to the stormtroopers walking around giving people orders. It seemed the stormtroopers who pass through were lingering a lot more than they were last year. The stormtroopers also wanted some food, but I think his handler said no.
Although the food was different, it was better. There was more savoury options added as well as more fruit. The bar still serves Galactic Punch, and is the main way to get your money's worth from this dessert party as you can go and up and have as many cocktails as you like. I also noticed they were given out bottles of Bud and glasses of wine, too.
When it's time to go, you can once again grab some canned or bottled drinks from the drink area, and head on out. As you leave, you are given your souvenir stein (it was Darth Vader this year) as well as a bottle of water.
The viewing area was different this time. Last year it was back towards the middle where the light up Hollywood Studios sign is, but now it's right at the front of the Chinese Theatre. It was great! The area cornered off for the party was huge and there was so much room. We managed to stay seated on the floor with lots of room around us to watch the fireworks go off above us without feeling cramped.
We gave the Star Wars dessert party high praise last year, and this year they have made it even better (I can't say the same for the Happily Ever After dessert party). If you're a Star Wars fan this is a must do, if you're not a Star Wars fan, there's still plenty to love and enjoy.
Our Score 4.5/5
Is it worth the money? If you take full advantage of the bar, yes. Otherwise, mostly.
