There are several ways to travel around the Walt Disney World resort. It's over 40 square miles, so don't think you can walk everywhere.

Disney Buses

Disney Buses are the most popular and convenient way to travel to and from the parks. Just head out your hotel and you'll see the bus stops and signs for each of the Disney Parks. They run every 20 minutes or so, and will take you straight to the park gates. The buses run all day, every day, until the last people exit the parks at the end of the night.

Monorail

The monorail system connects Magic Kingdom, the nearby hotels, and Epcot. The monorail is the best way to get from Magic Kingdom to Epcot, and vice versa. But the monorail also travels to the hotels in the Magic Kingdom area, as well as the Ticket & Transport centre.

Boats

Some resorts, usually the more expensive ones, offer boat transportation to the parks where applicable. All Magic Kingdom area hotels offer this (Grand Floridian etc). Port Orleans also offer a boat to Disney Springs, and you can get a boat from Hollywood Studios to Epcot (Boardwalk area).

Taxi

You can avoid other people completely and grab a taxi back to or from the parks. They can be pricey depending on how far it is you want to travel. Some hotels are on the opposite end of Disney properly, and would be expensive to travel by taxi. For example, Magic Kingdom and Pop Century, or Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disney Springs.

You do not need to pay for tip any of the Disney owned transportation options. They're included in the hotel price! Just a smile and a thank you is enough. You will however want to tip the taxi drivers. For more information on tipping, view our tipping page.

There is also an option to use services like Uber if you'd prefer.

Top Tip: Depending on the hotel you're staying at, and the park you're currently in, it may be worth getting a taxi at the end of the night, especially if you've stayed for the night time show. For example, if you leave Hollywood Studios and see the queue for your bus back to your resort is huge, it may be worth paying a few bucks and getting a taxi. If you're staying at Caribbean Beach or Pop century, Hollywood Studios is just around the corner. It costs about $10+tip in a taxi to get back. Sometimes $10 is worth getting back to the hotel quickly after an exhausting day.
