You're going to need spending money when you visit Walt Disney World. It's a good to plan for a mix of cash and digital payments. We'll go over some of the options available to you.

Cash

Cash is accepted throughout Walt Disney World, even post-COVID. There are nowadays amazing digital payment options, and the use of cash is declining. However, you should still take some cash- at least for some tips.

0% Debit Cards

Many current accounts charge huge fees using your card abroad, and should be avoided. Current accounts with a 0% debit card is the most popular spending money method. Digital banks like Starling Bank are perfect for using abroad. There's no ATM fees, no charges at all when paying with your card abroad, payments are made using Mastercard's exchange rate, and you get instant payment notifications in USD and GBP to see what you spent as soon as you spend it.

0% Credit Cards

Like debit cards, some banks offer credit cards as well. Santander Zero, The NatWest Credit Card, and Halifax Clarity to name a few. If you have good credit, it's always worth keeping a credit card on you if you've not got enough balance in your current account just incase of any emergencies.

Travel Money Cards

There are a few Travel Money Cards around, for example the Post Office Travel Card. These are cards which you can load at any time and use just like debit cards. I am personally not a fan of these, as many are not FSCS (Financial Services Compensation Scheme) protected, and fees can be higher than current accounts through Starling Bank for example.

What We Do

We personally use all three methods. We take some cash (primarily for tips), have a backup 0% credit card, and use a Starling Bank account to make all our purchases (either using the actual card or Apple Pay).
