Why The "Magic At Sea" Disney Cruise Sailings Were A Success
At the time of writing, there's just one Magic At Sea sailing left on 1st October. It's going to be sad to see these Magic At Sea voyages finish, but I hope Disney plans to do something like this again.

It's been a long and painful road since the COVID-19 pandemic starting in early 2020, and with each passing month, trips were cancelled as borders remained closed. The travel industry was plunged into the biggest crisis it's seen in a very long time. After three waves of COVID-19 infections in the UK and vaccinations picking up, the UK government slowly ended legal restrictions going into the summer of 2021. Disney decided to put their deserted cruise ships to good use and came up with a staycation idea for UK guests. Even the Americans were super jealous of us getting these sailings as this was prior to their cruises restarting.

As soon as these Magic At Sea cruises were announced, I made sure I was first in the virtual line to book the very first sailing from Liverpool on July 15th. Luckily I was going to be fully vaccinated in time for this sailing due to surgery earlier in the year, otherwise, I'd have to wait well until the summer. Silver linings.

In my review, I talk about how amazing the experience was, and how well they implemented safety features that were necessary to make it possible. I know that the teams behind making this happen poured their heart and soul into it, and it showed. It was fantastic to do something (and even more do something Disney) that felt like a holiday, even though we were just cruising around the Mersey.

The Disney Magic At Sea sailings were a success. Not just in terms of making a little extra revenue for Disney during the pandemic when all us Brits were restricted to the UK, but giving the Disney audience a taste for something they might not have acquired otherwise - a taste for the Disney cruises.

Cruises never interested me. Not even Disney ones. Of course, they do have a reputation for something you do when you're retired, and for me personally, I love holidays to Disney World because I like to be constantly doing something.

Magic At Sea changed that.

With the pandemic and the itch to be able to do something, anything, as borders were closed, and then something Disney comes along, of course, I was going to be all over that. What Magic At Sea did to me was make me interested in Disney cruises. I know full well I'm not the only person who sailed on these Magic At Sea cruises (and I did two of them) who has caught the cruise bug. The Magic At Sea has done what I thought wasn't possible for myself - and for many others - and that's to be interested in cruises.

Disney is currently building a new ship called the Disney Wish and I've already booked my place on it next year. We'll be platinum castaway club members in no time.
