British Airways' parent company, International Airlines Group (IAG), has announced a record operating profit of €4.3 billion (about £3.8 billion) from revenues of €32.1 billion (about £28.1 billion) in 2025 - a 17.3% increase. This was primarily due to lower fuel costs and higher demand for premium cabins. While any company will be happy with profit growth, there is some context to be had about how much of a flight cost is profit, as we outline in our Why UK Flights To Orlando Florida Are So Expensive article.

It was announced last year that British Airways made an order for $10 billion worth of new planes and during this earnings report, the company reiterated that 32 new Boeing 787-10 aircraft will be used for a combination of fleet replacement and growth, forming part of the Group's ongoing investment in modern aircraft to drive operational efficiency, reduce emissions, and enhance on-board products. This will include the gradual replacement of the 777 fleet from London Gatwick.

While British Airways will begin receiving new planes in 2028, the new aircraft that will be delivered to Gatwick to replace the existing 777-200 fleet (which is used for Orlando flights) will begin in 2029, BA says.

We have enjoyed using British Airways for our Orlando trips - as we outline in our
British Airways Economy (World Traveller) Review and British Airways Premium Economy (World Traveller Plus) Review - but the planes are getting tired. The London to Orlando route currently uses, on average, a 25-year-old Boeing 777.
