Disneyland Paris has announced that starting January 6th, 2025, Big Thunder Mountain at Disneyland Park will close for refurbishment until summer 2025. This is addition to the news that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World, will close for refurbishment until early 2026.
Disney has said this renovation is necessary to ensure the good maintenance of this attraction to keep it open all-year-long. After an in-depth study of the wood, several structures are to be replaced. These new elements are more durable and will be carefully painted to retain the aged look of the gold-rush mine.

There will also be refurbishments to certain emblematic elements of the decor on the mountain, such as the famous Mill Camp tower and the queue section. All the animal figures in the attraction, such as Billy the goat and the mules, will be fully restored to their original glory in the Central Workshops.
