The Chinese Embassy announces from 00:00 on February 17th, 2026, to 4:00 on December 31st, 2026, (Beijing time), ordinary passport holders from the UK and Canada can be exempted from visa requirements to enter China and stay for up to 30 days for business, tourism, family/friends visit, exchange and transit purposes. While the statement from Beijing says that the new rules are temporary (until the end of 2026) it's largely believed this will be extended indefinitely. If you're planning a 2027 trip, I would hold off making plans until the extension is made official.

According to the UK Government, to enter China, your passport must have an ‘expiry date’ at least 6 months after the date you arrive and 2 blank pages for visas and stamping.

This means British travellers can now visit Shanghai Disneyland without requiring a visa. While you're over that side of the world you could visit Hong Kong Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland too!

Before travelling, it's highly recommended you review the UK government's Safety and security guidance, which covers important considerations for visiting China.
