Following the news that the UK government approving a third runway at London Heathrow Airport comes the news that UK Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander has approved plans for a second runway at London Gatwick Airport. The estimated £2.2billion project will involve moving the current Northern Runway and bringing it into regular use, as well as extending the size of terminals.

It's also worth noting that Virgin Atlantic - who now flies from Heathrow but originally flew to Orlando from Gatwick - has been contemplating a return to London Gatwick Airport, it will be curious if this announcement results in Virgin Atlantic moving back to Gatwick.
