What Is Happening To Mickey and the Magician?
Disney has told us that Mickey and the Magician is coming off the Disneyland Paris entertainment lineup for the whole of 2027. The show has been running at the Animagique Theatre since it first opened on 2nd July 2016, picking up an IAAPA Brass Ring Award that same year for its work within the theme park industry. An updated version launched on 23rd April 2022 as part of the Disneyland Paris 30th anniversary celebrations, with new illusions created by magician Paul Kieve drawing on the work of Georges Méliès and Robert-Houdin.
The story follows Mickey being left to clean the atelier overnight, only for a sprinkle of Tinker Bell's pixie dust to send him tumbling into the worlds of Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin and Frozen before he finds his way back.
Why Is The Animagique Theatre Being Refurbished?
Disney hasn't given us a detailed breakdown of what the refurbishment work actually covers, only that it's described as major and will keep the theatre closed for months. The Animagique Theatre sits within World Premiere Plaza at Disney Adventure World. Given the venue has been running the same production continuously since 2016 with only a pandemic pause and a 2022 refresh, a refit of the stage, seating or technical systems isn't a surprise.
When Does The Refurbishment Start And How Long Will It Last?
The work begins on 10th January 2027. Disney says it will last several months and is expected to run through the rest of the year. If you're hoping to catch a reopened version before the year is out, there's currently nothing from Disney to suggest that's likely, so it makes more sense to plan your 2027 visit assuming the show won't be part of it.
What Does This Mean For Your 2027 Disneyland Paris Trip?
If you've already booked, or you're weighing up, a 2027 Disneyland Paris trip from the UK, here's how this actually lands on your plans.
- The closure covers every UK school holiday window in the calendar, February half term, Easter, May half term, the summer holidays, October half term and Christmas.
- If Mickey and the Magician was the one show you'd built a visit around, you'll need to either drop it from the itinerary or push the trip to 2028 instead.
- This is a single show closure, the rest of the Disney Adventure World entertainment lineup carries on as normal.
None of this changes whether Disneyland Paris is worth booking for 2027, it just means one show is off the table for the year.
