Due to the discovery of the new "Omicron' COVID-19 variant, the UK government is taking precautions and once again requiring PCR tests upon return to the UK rather than the cheaper LFT tests, for arrivals after 4am, November 30th 2021. This testing policy will be revised every 3 weeks.

The test you will need to arrange if you're planning to go abroad soon is the "Mandatory PCR Day 2 Covid-19 Test" for all travellers aged 4+. What's more, the test must be taken within 2 days of your arrival and you must self-isolate until your test results return (which is usually within 24 hours).

To read our step-by-step guide , you can view our article: "Day 2 Travel Covid-19 Testing Guide When Returning To The UK" (this article goes through the process of the LFT's, but the process is the same).
