The TSA banned lithium-ion batteries from checked luggage back in 2020, but this month the TSA has announced the ban has been extended to power banks and mobile phone charging cases. These bans are due to the fire hazard that lithium-ion rechargeable batteries have in rare circumstances.
Items Banned From Checked Luggage
Power banks
Cell phone (mobile) battery charging cases
Rechargeable and non-rechargeable lithium batteries
Cell phone batteries
External batteries
Laptop batteries
Portable rechargers
The above items can no longer be in your checked luggage and must be taken with you onboard with your hand luggage. If any of these items are found in your checked luggage, they will likely be confiscated.
You can view the official TSA website for more information on what is allowed and not allowed on flight to the US.
