USA Day 3-5 Test Remains In Place For Children

Last week the CDC announced the news that the USA will be scrapping the pre-departure COVID-19 tests starting June 12th. This applies to all adults and children. All adults 18+ still need to be fully vaccinated (2 main jabs, booster not required).

Children under 18 do not need to be vaccinated or take a pre-departure test, however the 3-5 day test is still required.

The CDC requires unvaccinated travellers - including unvaccinated children aged between 2 and 17 - to take a COVID-19 LFT/antigen test between 3 and 5 days after arriving in the US. These tests can be done and/or purchased at local pharmacies such as Walgreens, CVS, etc. However, the best method is to buy an LFT here in the UK and take it with you. You can then take the test, upload it, and get your negative certificate. Keep in mind this test does not have to be observed, and you do not need to declare it anywhere or to anyone. However, you have to swear in your attestation form that if travelling with unvaccinated children, they did take a COVID-19 test 3-5 days after arriving. Children should self-isolate should any symptoms develop or if they test positive.

The CDC exact quote: Does the attestation require noncitizen, nonimmigrant children ages 2-17 years old to quarantine for 5 days when they arrive in the United States?

Children ages 2 through 17 years (minors) who are noncitizen nonimmigrants do not have to quarantine after arrival in the United States; however, the attestation requires that they get a COVID-19 viral test 3-5 days after arrival. If a child, like any other traveler, tests positive for COVID-19 or develops COVID-19 symptoms, they should isolate for a full 5 calendar days. They should also properly wear a well-fitting mask any time they must be around others during their full 5-day isolation period and for an additional 5 days after ending isolation.
The attestation form will still be a requirement going forward, and these are done through your airline. This is in addition to your ESTA.
