We were looking at flights for next year a month or so ago and noticed that the price of Virgin was on par with BA (taking into account their charge for choosing seats) - we were torn! When we came to start actually booking this week, we noticed that Virgin were charging us to choose our seats which they had not done previously.
Looking over the Virgin FAQ pages, this appears to be a new policy that began on September 18th, 2023, which has now been fully implemented. Some seats previously had a charge, for example the front few rows, but now to choose your seat in advance charges will apply to all economy seats.
The costs vary per flight, but on the London Heathrow to Orlando route we've seen costs from £27 per person each way (from £54 total) for economy seats, and £60 per person each way (from £120 total) for select premium seats.
If you've already booked flights and chosen seats, it will be honoured and you will not be charged. Flying Club Gold members will be able to select their seats for free, and Flying Club Silver members can select their seats for free 7 days before boarding.
