Boathouse Disney Springs Review

Boathouse Disney Springs Review

Review - WDW
14-Oct-2017

This is a review for Boathouse at Disney Springs, we dined here on September 2017.

We've eaten at The Boathouse once before in 2015. We had a pretty below average experience here then. The food was fine, just we thought it wasn't worth 2 of our precious Disney dining credits. We went with our family in 2015 and when we ate at The Boathouse, we had the sharing Porterhouse (for 2). That cost us 4 table service credits. The steak didn't come with fries or any other sides. A side of fries (which we did order) were $10 each, although a sizeable portion. We felt a little ripped off.

Fast forward to 2017, our holiday was disrupted by the infamous Hurricane Irma, which meant for the evening we endured the storm, our restaurant reserveration to Chef Mickey was of course cancelled. The day after the storm, we had reservations at Trails End which was cancelled due Wilderness Lodge being closed down due to storm damage. So we were left with 2 days worth of table service credits and no reserverations. We had a look on the app and there wasn't a whole lot of choice available. Granted, there may have been a few no-shows due to the storm, but we'd have rather have a reserveration somewhere. As we had the spare credits, and there was plenty of availability, The Boathouse at Disney Springs was our choice.

We were a little early so decided to hang out the Hanger Bar next door for a couple drinks before we headed over. When it was getting close for our reserveration time, we went on over and decided to check out the bar for 10 minutes before we're due to be seated.

Tee had the Blueberry Lemonade cocktail, and it was rather delicious. As I'm mainly a rum drinker, the only rum drink was a Mojito, and although I'm not usually a fan of Mojito's in general this was actually really nice. If we had the time, I'd probably have had a second one.

When we were seated, we were introduced to our server - Corwyn - who was awesome. He brought us some bread rolls and took our drinks order. I don't know what it is about Disney and their bread rolls, but they're always delicious, and these were no exception. We had to ask for some more.

As we were using two of our dining credits (each) we had to go the most expensive steak we could find.

Boathouse Disney Springs Menu

We both went for the 14 ounce New York Strip. We also ordered some mac 'n' cheese as I remembered the steaks didn't come with any sides, and wasn't really in the mood for fries.

As much as I love the sloppy cheap mac 'n' cheese you get at the Disney buffets, it was rather refreshing to have a more quality mac 'n' cheese dish.

Our steaks arrived, and what caught me by surprise is it came with 3 litte potatoes. There was nothing special about them, just 3 little boiled spuds. This is always one of the few places (at least on Disney property) where they ask to cut into the steak to make sure it's cooked to your liking. They didn't even do this in California Grill. I wonder if they get a lot of complaints after the people have eaten. The steaks were very delicious. They were very well cooked and although I did ask for medium, it was on the more well done side of medium, but that's okay for me.

It was time for dessert and Tee had the Key Lime Pie which was "the best key lime pie I've ever tasted". Nothing on the dessert menu really stood out to me, so I just opted from some ice cream. We were a little giddy from our previous cocktails still, and I joked saying I bet it's going to be one little scoop in a fancy little glass bowl.

I wasn't disappointed.

Overall I'd have a very hard time justifying $155 (including tip) for that meal. Yes, we went for the most expensive thing on the menu to get our two credits worth, but even looking at what we got, I don't think it's worth the two credits. However, it is more than a one credit meal experience. It's one of those restaurants that is nice, but a little overpriced for what it is. If you had something on the menu that is less pricey, like a burger or one of the delicious sounding sandwiches, it would be very reasonable indeed. Even if you only wanted to get that bread again. Over server, Corwyn was fantastic. The service was top notch. Our drinks were always topped up and went as far as making sure my coffee was just how I liked it - all other restaurants to-date just gave it me as-is.

We would visit again if we had any nights with no spare credits, but we'd go for the more reasonable priced menu options if buying it ourselves.

Our Score 4/5

Is it worth the money?
If you have one of the regular average priced menu items, yes it is worth the money. The steaks are very good but overpriced.

Is it worth the dining plan credit?
If you desire steak or fish, then yes. Otherwise no, it's not worth 2 credits.
