Roundup Rodeo BBQ Review At Disney's Hollywood Studios
Review - WDW 27-Jun-2023
Roundup Rodeo BBQ was the most disappointing meal of our Spring 2023 trip, and I was looking forward to this one!
✅ Really cool theming and great atmosphere
👍 Good cocktails and drinks but not particularly strong
❌ Barely any covered waiting area while waiting to be seated
❌ Food was overall pretty naff, but there's a couple good items
They were running around 30 minutes late so we had to wait a while to be seated, that's generally fine, but if you know Toy Story Land at Disney's Hollywood Studios, it can be a bit of a problem. That's because there's barely any cover in the waiting area for Roundup Rodeo BBQ. I don't think Disney listened to any of the guests feedback about Toy Story Land regarding the lack of cover and shade. They custom-built a new building for this restaurant and gave no thought to shade and cover. Around 20 guests were outside waiting in the sweltering sun. Even if there wasn't a delay, that's just bad guest experience. Once you’ve checked in on the app and are told your table is ready, you still have to wait outside for your name to be called. It absolutely baffles me that this brand-new building wasn’t built with enough inside or even outside covered waiting areas.
When inside, you can appreciate how well done the theming is throughout. Although there are a lot of tables - which are hard canteen style tables and chairs - it had quite a nice atmosphere overall.
I very much liked that the plates were made to look like paper plates. You also have three different BBQ sauces already on your table when you arrive.
As we're talking about the sauces, I tried all three. The classic was watery but quite nice, the sweet was nice and thick and not too sweet, and the spicy was watery again but had a nice little kick to it. I think in regards to texture the sweet sauce was the best, but for taste, the spicy one did it for me.
Here's a look at the menu. Everything is served family style. I believe you can order more of anything you like, but we didn't care to order anything else so we can't confirm.
We ordered two of their cocktails. We had the "Rum On The Range" which was delicious and tasted like an alcoholic chocolate milkshake. We also had the "Rum Punch" which was also delicious and very tropical. Both were very nice, but not overly strong.
Moving onto the food, overall it wasn't great. Nothing bad enough to complain about, just generally naff, but with a couple of good items.
First, we were served with some cheese biscuits (or scones) with sweet jelly. These were actually quite nice, although some butter would have been better than the jelly, but that's a personal preference.
After our biscuits, we were served some salads! The salad was nice and fresh, and the dressing was not overly bitter. The melon salad is just a bowl of melon. I'm not sure what makes it a salad, but there we go.
✅ The brisket was actually quite tasty and a highlight of the meal
✅ The street corn side was good and another highlight
🆗 Ribs were average and absolutely needed some sauce
🆗 The tater tots were a bit overcooked and the topping sauce was bland
❌ Although appears to be a fan favourite, we did not care for the flavouring on the sausage at all
❌ Something about the smell of the chicken put me off. I still tried a bit of it, but it was dry anyway
❌ The Mac & Cheese side was most tasteless Mac & Cheese I’ve ever had at Walt Disney World
❌ The BBQ beans weren’t to my taste at all
For dessert, you get to pick one for each guest. We were cheeky and asked for the infamous Forky cupcake as well. The chocolate silk pie just tasted like the tubs of chocolate moose you can buy in Sainsbury’s. The strawberry pie was okay, but nothing great. Finally, the Forky cupcake was rather flavourless but the Forky himself was a nice bit of shortbread.
The service was pretty good here though. I noticed a few of the other servers and they were always in character and having fun with guests. Our server was friendly and even made a few British jokes which is always a giggle with Americans.
This was our bill. You used to get a giant pencil to sign the check, but apparently, those were removed because guests were stealing them.
As I said at the start, and while I didn’t have high hopes for this place, I still left disappointed. I am always excited about new places to eat at Walt Disney World. The theming is cute while inside, and the “Andy’s coming” bit is fun when it happens, but the lack of covered waiting areas on a new building is perplexing, and the food being mediocre at best, this place sadly won't get a recommendation from me. At $130 for the two of us before tip with just one drink each just isn't worth this. Unless you or your little ones love Toy Story a lot, you’re not missing much.
