Teppan Edo Review (Including The $100 Wagyu Beef)

Teppan Edo - located in the Japan pavilion at EPCOT - is a Teppanyaki-style restaurant. This is always a place that has intrigued me but the way it's set up and the way you sit with other parties has always put me off a little, but this trip we went for it.

👍 Service was good and the chef was a laugh
🆗 Food was overall fine. Good quality but lacked anything "wow". $100 Wagyu was a letdown and not worth it at all
😲 $16 for a pint of Asahi! I was distracted and wasn't thinking when asked for a second, so they won that battle
❌ Tables are absolutely rammed into these rooms which hinders the atmosphere and makes you feel like a hot sardine

When your table is ready, all members of the party (if they've arrived) are brought to the table. The staff who are taking guests to their tables are all super friendly and nice. The tables seat 8 in total and you will be put with other parties if your party is less than 6.

This is where I started to feel a bit uncomfortable. While I have never been to a Teppanyaki-style restaurant before, the other half has, and she said she's not seen one this rammed. All the tables are pretty much on top of each other. As you can imagine with hot open grills in front of you, it gets hot. Now, I wasn't expecting this to be a chilly experience when you have hot open grills, but due to the number of grills in each of the rooms and all the tables right next to eat other, it was uncomfortable, hot, and crowded in there.

What's worse, as you can see from the image above, there are two tables where the chefs face back to back. Our chef hadn't arrived yet and a woman in a wheelchair who was sitting at the table near the back got out of her wheelchair next to our table to walk over, she slowly walked through where the chefs will stand and a staff member told her to go back. That's understandable as I can't imagine they allow people to walk through there, but it's not made clear anywhere. However, the staff member told this woman to go back and go around behind us. I look behind us and the backs of our chairs are pretty much against the wall. They made that poor woman squeeze through behind us. It's a badly laid out restaurant and wasn't a good start.

Our lovely server came over and introduced herself and gave us the food and drinks menus to look over.

Everyone likes different beers, but that Kiriin stuff I tried before and didn't like it, the Sapporo isn't bad, but I know I like Asahi when I go to Wagga's. I then noticed it was $16 a pint! I decided I'll be part of the problem and have one. I was later on distracted by what was going on when the server asked if I wanted another completely forgetting they were $16 a pint, lesson learned there. The Violet Sake though is delicious and reasonably priced.

I ordered the chicken and the other half ordered the steak and chicken combo. Since we decided to try this place I have been eyeing up that $100 Wagyu beef. It's only 4oz but I've never had it before, and I decided that I was going to treat myself and give it a go. I've seen other reviews and videos about it, and people have been raving about it- which got me even more excited! And what I will say is, if you enjoy getting side-eyed by people, order the $100 4oz Wagyu steak.

To start, everyone is presented with a little salad. It was fresh and the dressing was pretty good, but there's no way I'm filling up on salad. For those who don't like chopsticks, don't worry, they offer everyone a fork as well.

The chef then comes out and introduces himself. Then the cooing begins! As he cooks, he does a few little Disney-themed bits. One of the bits he did was creating the Tree Of Life.

The chef cooks up the noodles, veg, and then everyone's meats.

Once the noodles and veg are done, you're given a bowl of rice.

The rice wasn't great. I'm not sure if it's because a few nights prior we were at Morimoto Asia and their sides of rice are fantastic, but this rice was just dry and lifeless. We were then served the meat.

Overall the food was pretty good. I wasn't blown away like I thought I would be. Everything was cooked well and tasted fine. The chicken actually surprised me as I was afraid it would be pretty bland. Aside from the rice, it was a pretty good meal overall, but nothing amazing.

Once he cooked up everyone's mains, he then moves on to the Wagyu! He asks how I want it cooked and then the only thing he's left doing while everyone is eating is cooking this Wagyu. Everyone just sat there watching him cook my extremely premium steak.

The Wagyu was a let down, to be honest. Yes, it was quite soft and buttery, but also more fatty than I thought it would be. If you like fatty steaks then this might be a winner for you. I was led to believe this would be some mind-blowing must-do steak experience that would ruin all other steaks, yeah it wasn't and it didn't. I wanted to try it and I don't regret it, but my wallet is very glad that I won't be buying another one ever again.

Taking out the Wagyu, was this meal worth $150? No, not really. The atmosphere is quite lacking which is only made worse by the tables being rammed into those rooms. It was also very loud - which I generally don't mind - but it was hard to hear what the chef and staff are saying half the time. While the service was very good and the chefs were a laugh, the food itself was pretty good, but lacked excitement. I'm glad we tried it but it's highly unlikely we'll ever return.

Once you go outside be sure to go to the edge of the decking area, you get a beautiful view of World Showcase Lagoon.
