This is a review for Tusker House at Animal Kingdom, we dined here on September 2017.
We only discovered Tusker House a year or two ago, as it seemed to be tucked away and hidden in Africa we didn't really know it existed. However, we love our American buffets so it wasn't going to take long for it come on our radar.
This visit we dined there for both breakfast and dinner, so we're going to talk about our general experience doing both.
As I said, Tusker House is a buffet character restaurant located in Africa at Disney's Animal Kingdom. The characters that appear here are Mickey, Goofy, Donald & Daisy. Both at breakfast and dinner all dressed in their safari attire.
Starting off with breakfast, you get coffee and tea on the table. Your server will also bring over and pour you some delicious jungle juice. If you've yet to experience jungle juice at either here or Boma - you're in for a treat.
When you're ready, you head up to the center of the restaurant where all the food is laid out for you to enjoy. Grab and a plate, and dig in!
At breakfast they have all the American favourites, as well as a few unique items. They have all your standard continental items, as well as bacon, sausage patties, eggs, Mickey waffles, croissants, and strangely enough Krispy Kreme doughnuts.
They also serve some more unique items like chicken curry and rice, beef bobotie, corn beef hash and quiche to name a few.
You tend to spend less time in here at breakfast time, which means you may not be there long enough to get all the characters. But fear not, if you let a cast member or your server know that you'll be finishing soon, they'll do what they can to get the characters you have yet to see to come over to you as soon as possible.
The same awesome atmosphere carries on at dinner time. The characters are just as great.
The food variety - although not massive - is very plentiful.
If you've been to Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge, this has a similar style in some ways. Although I would say it was a little less out there. In terms of food quality, it is probably on par with Boma, but with added characters it just makes Tusker House a win. They have some delicious carved meats (including salmon), some unique items, as well as all the favourites like cornbread, bread rolls, mash, mac 'n' cheese and all that good stuff.
The fun doesn't stop there. The middle dessert station has a host of different dessert offerings. Take a look at all those cookies!
In summary, Tusker House is by far our favourite buffet restaurant at Disney World. The character interactions are awesome. The food is fantastic (and for a Disney buffet, that's quite a compliment). Tusker House is a must do for all buffet and character fans. It is one of our staple restaurants for both breakfast and dinner.
Our Score 4.5/5
Is it worth the money? Oh yes.
Is it worth the dining plan credit? 100% yes.
