Disney have been using their Disney Parks Blog to shut down rumours lately, which isn't something they've done much of in the past. Thomas Smith (Editorial Content Director for Disney Parks) has taken to the blog twice to put a stop to certain rumours floating around the web this month.

In this new age of the internet where clicks are king, outlets are throwing anything against the wall to drive traffic to their sites. And that includes spreading (or even creating) Disney park rumours. Disney has taken an unprecedented stand against certain rumours and used the official Disney Parks Blog to shut them down.

Respect for outlets can be decreased when whispers or possible plans get thrown out onto the internet as 'RUMOR', even more so when it doesn't come true. Although most likely don't care.

But a rumour is a rumour. It's up to you to indulge in them or to just read it and move on. It can be fun to read "scoops" and to speculate about the future of the parks, but with Disney - fans are very passionate. While I don't care for rumours all that much, if I saw one that said the Haunted Mansion was getting a Lion King overlay (as much as I adore the Lion King) I would likely lose my marbles. However, until Disney announces a project, everything is just speculation. If you don't want to get into that sort of speculation, just avoid the outlets that try to capitalise on the clicks.

Here at Mickey From The UK, we're a little different. We're based in the UK reporting (using the term 'reporting' very loosely) on things happening in Disney World that interests us or what we think is relavant and interesting to Brits. While I like to speculate here and there (for example Extra Magic Hours being moved to the morning from the evening throughout October, or why the UK gets a better free dining offer than domestic folks) I rarely dive into rumours on this site or spread them across our social media. I don't do this for a living, I do this for fun. So the general internet desire to get clicks does not matter to me. I can just write about what I want, and what I think people of the UK want to know about what's going on at their and our favourite holiday destination.

While I personally don't want Disney filling the Disney Parks Blog with rumour shut downs (because even most rumours probably start off from some sort of truth, even if it's a shelved plan) it's intriguing they've decided to start doing it on some of the rumours. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.
