Why You Should Submit Your ESTA Before Booking Your Florida USA Holiday

Guide

Why you should complete your ESTA before booking your USA holiday.

Why You Should Submit Your ESTA Before Booking Your Florida USA Holiday

You are legally required to complete an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) before travelling to the United States of America (if you're not a USA citizen or have a Visa). If you have not submitted an ESTA before travel, you will not be able to board your flight. Turning up at the airport for your magical trip and being denied boarding would not be fun!

What Is An ESTA?

In summary, an ESTA is a form you submit to the US government that tells them your plans and personal details. They will also do a light background check to find out if you'll be allowed entry into the country. This is compulsory for all passengers who want to travel to the United States. An ESTA costs $21 for each person and if approved, is valid for 2 years.

Submit ESTA's Before You Book

Many people do not complete their ESTA until after they've booked their Walt Disney World holiday. This can end up being a huge mistake.

If you book a holiday before submitting your ESTA, and your ESTA application is denied (which can happen, especially if you have a criminal record) you will NOT receive a refund on your deposit from your travel agent, and your travel insurance will not reimburse you either.

You should make sure you're clear to travel before you book. Worse case, we advise you to submit your ESTA at least three months before your holiday. That's because if your ESTA is denied, you need time to set up and arrange a VISA, which includes travelling to an in-person interview.

To Those Who've Never Had Problems

Even if you've had your ESTA go through no problem in the past, that doesn't mean it's guaranteed to be accepted every time going forward. The US is always changing their rules and most recently started denying anybody who visited Cuba in recent years. At any point, a country could be blacklisted, and that's just one example, there are several variables they take into account.

The Exception To This Rule

The exception to this advice is if your passport is due to be renewed. When you get a new passport you have to apply for a new ESTA, regardless of how long is left on your current approved ESTA.

Paying the $21 each upfront to check you're safe to travel is the most sensible action you can take. Even if it means losing some time on the 2-year allowance.

Navigate to the US Embassy website (https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov) to complete your ESTA before making your Walt Disney World booking.
