A Disney Cruise Line LEGO set has a chance of happening after a fan-designed model of one of the Dream Class ships landed on LEGO Ideas and has already passed 2,600 supporters. It needs 10,000 to be considered for official production. The early momentum is better than any previous Disney Cruise Line LEGO idea project.

Article Summary

  • What it is: a LEGO Ideas project modelled on Disney Cruise Line's Dream Class ships, complete with the AquaDuck and twin funnels.
  • Supporter count: over 2,600 at the time of writing. 10,000 is needed to enter LEGO's review stage.
  • Track record: previous Disney Cruise Line LEGO Ideas projects have tried and failed to reach the threshold.
  • No guarantee: even hitting 10,000 supporters doesn't mean LEGO will make it. Most qualifying projects don't get approved.
  • Timeline: LEGO reviews qualifying projects a few times a year, and the whole process from idea to shelf typically takes well over a year.

Disney Cruise Line LEGO Set: Quick Navigation

What Is The Disney Cruise Line LEGO Ideas Set?

The project is a LEGO model of one of Disney Cruise Line's Dream Class ships, which includes Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. The creator has recreated the black, white, red and yellow hull colours, the twin red funnels, rows of yellow lifeboats, and a scaled-down AquaDuck slide running between the funnels. The top decks include pool areas and radar equipment.

Here's how the creator describes it on the project page.

"This build was inspired by the beautiful Dream Class cruise ships, My goal was to capture the ship's iconic profile and distinctive details while creating a fun and rewarding LEGO building experience. From the elegant bow to the twin funnels, lifeboats, and The AquaDuck slide, I worked to recreate the features that make this ship instantly recognizable while using creative LEGO building techniques. One of my favorite parts of this build is how the overall silhouette comes together. I wanted the model to be recognizable from almost any angle while still being an enjoyable and achievable build. Designing the curves of the bow, and the proportions of the superstructure required plenty of experimentation, making the finished model especially rewarding. I believe this build would appeal to a wide range of LEGO fans because it complements the existing Disney-themed collection, including sets like Cinderella Castle, the Disney Train Station, and Main Street, U.S.A. Many families who have made unforgettable memories at the Disney Parks have also sailed with Disney Cruise Line, yet there has never been a LEGO set celebrating these iconic ships. A Disney Cruise Ship would make a unique addition to any Disney display while also appealing to maritime enthusiasts, Disney Cruise fans, and collectors who enjoy detailed display models. As Disney Cruise Line continues to expand its fleet and welcome new generations of guests, I think there are countless fans who would be excited to build and display a model inspired by these beautiful ships. If this project is fortunate enough to receive the support needed to become a LEGO Ideas set, I would be thrilled to see it developed as an officially licensed Disney product. It would be a wonderful way to celebrate the magic of Disney Cruise Line while giving LEGO and Disney fans the opportunity to build a ship that has created unforgettable family memories for so many people."

How Do You Support The Disney Cruise Line LEGO Set?

Backing a LEGO Ideas project costs nothing beyond having to create a free account. Here's how it all works.

  1. Create a free LEGO Ideas account. You'll need an email address and to confirm you're old enough to hold an account, which LEGO checks during sign-up.
  2. Open the Disney Cruise Ship project page. Head to the project on LEGO Ideas and have a look through the photos and description.
  3. Click the support button. This adds your vote to the total. You can also leave feedback on the build, though this is only seen by you and the creator.

How Does The LEGO Ideas 10,000 Supporter Process Work?

LEGO Ideas is the platform where fans submit their own set concepts. If a project reaches 10,000 supporters, it moves into LEGO's official review stage, where a review board made up of designers and product managers decides whether it gets developed into a real set. Reaching that milestone is not a guarantee. In the Second 2025 Review, 146 projects qualified with 10,000 or more supporters, and only 3 of them were approved to become official sets. This is primarily due to LEGO's expected demand for the product, licensing issues, legal issues, and more.

Reviews currently run three times a year for projects that have 10,000+ supporters. Projects also have a set amount of time to gather their 10,000 votes before the listing expires, which is why the previous Disney Cruise Line attempts didn't move forward. You can read LEGO's own breakdown of the process on their LEGO Ideas how it works page.

Has Anyone Tried To Get A Disney Cruise Line LEGO Set Made Before?

Yes, and this isn't even the first attempt at a Disney Wonder or Dream Class model. Back in 2012, a fan named Shawn Steele built a Disney Wonder model on the inaugural Hawaiian cruise and submitted it to LEGO Ideas, but the project didn't reach its supporter milestone before time ran out. A separate micro-scale Disney Wish Cruise Ship project also appeared on LEGO Ideas in 2022, built from around 700 pieces at about a 1:500 scale, complete with a Mickey-shaped pool on the top deck. Neither project made it through to an official set.

Disney licensing has historically been regarded as the biggest issue by past creators. Reaching 10,000 doesn't remove that licensing problem, but it gives it a chance.

Will The Final LEGO Set Look Like The Pitch Photos?

If this does get approved, don't expect the finished retail set to look exactly like the fan photos on the project page. That's normal. LEGO's own design team typically reworks approved Ideas projects before release, refining the build, swapping in production-friendly parts, and often improving the overall finish in the process. Fans will know the released version is more often than not a polished-up evolution of the pitch rather than a straight copy of it.

What Does This Mean For UK Disney Cruise Line Fans?

There's no confirmed release here, so there's nothing to book yet. But if you're the kind of Disney Cruise Line fan who'd want this on a shelf, a few things are worth keeping in mind while you wait and watch the vote count.

  • Voting is free and takes under a minute, so there's no reason not to add your name if you want to see it happen.
  • Even if this project reaches 10,000, it could still be a year or more before any set appears in shops, based on how long past LEGO Ideas projects have taken from approval to release.
  • If you're waiting for the LEGO version, the real Disney Dream is currently doing a UK season, sailing round-trip from Southampton this summer, so you don't need to fly to see the ship this design is based on.
  • Most UK families flying out to sail the Dream Class from its usual home port of Port Canaveral do so via Orlando International Airport, so it's worth keeping an eye on flight prices if a cruise is on the cards regardless of what happens with the LEGO set.

If you're planning a Disney Cruise Line holiday and want to fly with Virgin into Orlando, it's worth comparing Virgin Holidays package deals against Virgin flights booked separately to see which works out better for your dates.

There are plenty of other Disney-themed LEGO idea sets that are currently looking for support, you can find them here.

Disney Cruise Line LEGO Set: Your Questions Answered

It needs 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas to be considered for LEGO's official review stage. It currently has more than 2,600.

What happens after a LEGO Ideas project reaches 10,000 supporters?
It enters LEGO's official review stage, where a review board of designers and product managers decides whether to develop it into a real set. Reaching 10,000 supporters does not guarantee approval.

Has anyone tried to get a Disney Cruise Line LEGO set made before?
Yes. A Disney Wonder model was submitted in 2012 and resubmitted in 2016 but didn't reach the supporter threshold, and a separate Disney Wish microscale project appeared on LEGO Ideas in 2022.

Which Disney Cruise Line ship is the LEGO set based on?
It's modelled on the Dream Class ships, which covers Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, and includes details like the twin funnels and the AquaDuck slide.

Not necessarily. LEGO's design team typically reworks approved Ideas projects before release, so the retail version is often a refined take on the original pitch rather than an identical copy.

No. In the Second 2025 LEGO Ideas Review, 146 projects reached 10,000 supporters and only 3 were approved to become official sets.

Whether or not this one makes it, keep an eye on the supporter count if you'd like to see a Disney Cruise Line LEGO set finally happen. And if a real Disney Cruise is more your speed in the meantime, see what's available direct with Disney here.
