Disney Cruise Line appears to have updated (or currently updating) its policy to disallow guests hiding ducks around the Disney Cruise ships. Hiding ducks has been a cruise tradition for years across all cruise ships, but no more on Disney's ships it seems. A guest asked Disney's official planDisney q&a site if they could continue to hide ducks and they were told no.
Are we allowed to hide ducks on the ships? Security on our recent Disney cruise were removing them and told us to stop but I can't find this written anywhere.
I've been hearing rumblings that guests are being discouraged from hiding ducks onboard Disney Cruise ships, so I called the friendly agents at Disney Cruise Line to ask if they had an official policy that I could share with you. I was advised that guests cannot hide things, such as rubber ducks in staterooms or public areas on the ship... Crew Members are removing any ducks they spot around the ship.
We're not sure what has prompted the ban for this year, although, on our recent cruise, every duck we bumped into was just people trying to advertise their Instagram accounts, so perhaps Disney wants to stop the mass advert littering. Also I imagine it's quite a bit of extra work for crew members cleaning up the ones not found. Guests are now discouraged from hiding ducks around the Disney Cruise ships. Crew members will remove any ducks they find lying around.
