There are three rotational dining restaurants on the Disney Wish. The first one we visited was "Worlds Of Marvel". The next one we experienced was "1923". We ranked this one 2nd of the three restaurants onboard for both the food and overall experience.
Named after the year The Walt Disney Studios was founded, this sophisticated dining establishment celebrates the unwavering spirit of the original studio that started it all.
Travel back in time as you dine amid storyboards, sketches and props that illustrate the early animation process, while delighting in some of the tantalizing flavours found throughout the Golden State.
1923 is all about the food in this fine dining experience. The restaurant itself has animation props all around it. Some custom, some you might recognise. You can spend a lot of time walking through the restaurant to see all these elegant displays.
When we got seated we couldn't help but recognise the beautiful plate settings!
Here's the menu for 1923.
First was the bread service with Honey Butter Dip. Nice fresh bread and the honey dip was delicious.
For our first course, we had burrata mozzarella & prosciutto which was very nice and just the right amount.
We also tried both soups. Corn chowder and tomato soup. The tomato soup was creamy and delicious, but the corn chowder was disgusting and inedible.
For our main course, we had the 1923 peppered filet. A nice piece of tender meat, but on the small side, I should have ordered two! The green beans wrapped in bacon is a really nice touch. And finally, the fingerling potato mash was stunning.
Our other main was the rack of lamb. The lamb, the potato fondant, and the reduction used in this dish were absolutely superb. We would rate it perhaps ever so slightly below the rack of lamb dish on the Disney Magic, but still very nice and very enjoyable.
I was intrigued by the Tortiglioni Pasta so ordered a portion of that as well. Sadly, this wasn't particularly enjoyable. The sauce just wasn't creamy or flavourful enough and it just tasted like plain pasta. I've seen other photos since of the pasta covered in a thick creamy sauce, but I didn't get that.
It was time for dessert! There wasn't much to choose from. Although I'm not a huge dessert guy, I personally don't mind that too much.
We ordered the churros and the apple cheesecake. The cheesecake was delicious. It's the most unique cheesecake I've experienced to date. It wasn't too sweet and tasted nice.
Fans of churros will be happy to know there are fancy churros on the menu. However, they were a little stale but that caramel sauce was beautiful.
1923 was a lovely evening in a beautiful restaurant. The food was generally as good as we anticipated with a really nice relaxing and elegant atmosphere. Not all the food was excellent, but the things that we would order as primary choices, like the burrata, tomato soup, filet, and lamb were all excellent. The chowder, pasta, and churros - things I wouldn't order if this was an a la carte - were subpar.
This restaurant is missing something though. At Lumiere's - the Disney Magic's fine dining restaurant - has a pianist that plays. I know 1923 isn't meant to have any show aspects to it (but then neither does Lumiere's) but something just felt missing.
Out of the three rotational dining restaurants on the Disney Wish, this is ranked second.
