"Hyperspace Lounge" Disney Wish Review

Summary: Hyperspace Lounge is a dull rectangle lifeless Star Wars themed box room with high drink prices.

I love Star Wars and enjoy visiting Oga's Cantina at Disney's Hollywood Studios (apart from the fact there aren't any chairs) and I'm sad to report that "Hyperspace Lounge" onboard the Disney Wish was a massive disappointment.

In my The Bayou lounge review I talked about the openness of the bar because each side of the lounge is open to the two walkways down each side of the ship. Hyperspace lounge is the complete opposite. This lounge is located inside what feels like a small dingy rectangle box.

It felt exactly how it looks. You're sat in a box room with a screen on one wall with purple LED light strips around the ceiling. There was absolutely no atmosphere here. The bartenders were just like regular bartenders you'll have found on the other bars on the ship, there was no character in them. I'm not saying they were bad bartenders - quite the opposite - but there was nothing Star Wars-y about it.

The props in the corners just felt cheap and tacky. It was like I was teleported back to the '90s looking at a bunch of lava lamps.

If you've been to the Skyline Bar at Disneyland Paris, this is the same sort of concept. There's a large screen behind the bar which gives the illusion you're looking into space. Compared to the Skyline bar, this one is better. There's more going on and regular zips through hyperspace to different locations. The Skyline bar just has Spiderman every now and then swing by.

Hyperspace Lounge did have a good menu though. There was plenty of choices and all the drinks were strong and nice. However, you'll notice they are very much on the pricey side.

This was a wasted opportunity and this lounge felt like such an afterthought. I'm not sure if it was because of budget restraints, simply running out of time, or in the final days of planning they said "we need something Star Wars and there's a gap here!" That might not be how it came about, but that's what it feels like looking at the finished product.

In summary, Hyperspace Lounge is a dull rectangle lifeless box room with high drink prices. It hurts me as a huge Star Wars fan as I was really looking forward to this lounge. This is the first area of any Disney Cruise ship where I've said I will never go back.

Mickey From The UK Review Policy

Our reviews are based on our own visits, our own experience and our own money unless we say otherwise. We're honest with both the good and the not-so-good. When that happens, the aim isn't to put you off Disney - it's to point you towards a better option, whether that's a different restaurant, hotel or experience. We want your time and money going towards the parts of the trip that will make it even better - which is good for you, and good for Disney too.
