Disney Cruise Line has published a behind-the-scenes look at how its ships are refurbished in dry dock, using the Disney Wonder's 14-day refit in August 2026 as the example. For UK cruisers, the date to keep in mind is 8th May 2027, when the Disney Wish starts her first dry dock straight after crossing the Atlantic to Barcelona. She's back in service on 22nd May 2027, and her first Southampton sailings follow on 23rd July 2027.

What Has Disney Cruise Line Revealed About Its Dry Dock Process?
A dry dock is when a cruise ship is taken out of the water so the hull, engines and safety equipment can be inspected and repaired. Disney says each of its ships typically gets one every five years, and it uses the time to refresh guest areas while the ship is out of service.
The example Disney chose was the Disney Wonder, which spent 14 days at Seaspan Victoria Shipyards in British Columbia in August 2026. Nearly 1,000 crew and cast members worked through more than 100 projects, laying over 12 miles of new carpet and applying a new hull coating that Disney says is more sustainable. The full feature was published on Disney Experiences.
What Changed On The Disney Wonder, Fantasy And Magic?
Disney's feature covers three ships, though their refits happened at different times and the guest-facing changes vary a lot. The Fantasy got the most new features, while the Wonder's refit focused on carpet and the hull plus the Edge refresh, with no new venues announced. The Disney Wish is in the table too, because she's next in line and the ship most UK cruisers will care about.

| Ship | Dry Dock | Main Changes | Where She Sails | Best Suited For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Disney Fantasy | October 2025, Brest, France | Ramone's Cantina, Fantasy Tower Suite, Senses Spa updates, Edge moved to Deck 5, new bulbous bow | Port Canaveral, Florida | UK families adding a cruise to a Walt Disney World trip |
| Disney Wonder | 14 days in August 2026, Victoria, Canada | Over 12 miles of new carpet, new hull coating, refreshed Edge | Alaska from Vancouver, Pacific coast from San Diego | UK cruisers planning a long-haul Alaska trip |
| Disney Magic | Date not given by Disney | New hull coating, refreshed Edge | San Diego from autumn 2027 | Guests who prefer a smaller, older ship |
| Disney Wish | 8th to 22nd May 2027, between Barcelona sailings | Not announced yet | Barcelona, Civitavecchia and Southampton in summer 2027 | UK families wanting a Disney cruise without a long-haul flight |
Dry dock details from Disney Cruise Line and published itineraries. The Magic's San Diego season covers autumn 2027 and spring 2028 sailings.
The Fantasy's additions are the ones you'd notice on board. Ramone's Cantina is a Cars-themed quick service spot serving tacos and bowls by the pool, copied over from the Disney Dream. The Fantasy Tower Suite is built into the forward funnel, spreads over two storeys and sleeps up to eight, with a theme taken from The Sorcerer's Apprentice in Fantasia. Fitting the suite in meant moving Edge, the club for 11 to 14 year olds, down to Deck 5.
Which Disney Ships Have Had Their Dry Dock In Europe?
Look at the last few summers and a pattern appears. In 2024 the Disney Dream spent the summer in Europe and then went into dry dock in Brest, northern France. She came out with Ramone's Cantina on board and sailed back across the Atlantic from Southampton on 20th October 2024.
The Disney Fantasy followed the same route a year later. She spent summer 2025 in Europe, including sailings from Southampton, then entered the the shipyard in Brest on 1st October 2025 before her westbound transatlantic back to Florida.
The ship Disney sends to Europe for the summer tends to be the one due its five-yearly dry dock, and the work gets done while she's on this side of the Atlantic. In 2027 that ship is the Disney Wish.
When Is The Disney Wish Dry Dock In 2027?
The Disney Wish leaves Port Canaveral on Sunday 25th April 2027 for a 13-night eastbound transatlantic, arriving in Barcelona on Saturday 8th May 2027. Her dry dock runs from 8th May to 22nd May 2027, and her next sailing is a 7-night Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona on 22nd May. You can see the dates on Disney Cruise Line's UK sailings list.
She entered service in July 2022, so this will be her first dry dock, which fits Disney's five-year schedule. She'll also be the first Wish-class ship to have one, since the Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny are both newer.
After the Mediterranean sailings she heads to the UK. As we covered when the Disney Wish UK summer 2027 sailings were announced, she sails from Southampton between 23rd July and 17th September 2027, with trips to Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, the British Isles and Northern Europe. It's the first time a Wish-class ship has sailed from Europe.
Disney hasn't announced any guest-facing changes for the Wish's dry dock yet.
Should UK Families Book The Disney Wish Now Or Wait?
There's no reason to hold off booking a Southampton sailing because of the dry dock. The refit finishes on 22nd May 2027 and the first UK sailing leaves 76 days later, so whatever Disney adds will be in place well before you board. Waiting to see what changes only risks your preferred sailing or cabin selling out.
- A Southampton sailing on the Wish means you'll board about 11 weeks after the dry dock finishes.
- The transatlantic arriving in Barcelona on 8th May 2027 is the last sailing before the refit, so anyone on it sails the Wish as she is now.
- No Southampton sailings are lost to the dry dock, as the dates don't overlap.
- Disney hasn't announced new venues, so book for the itinerary and the ship as she is rather than for features that may not appear.
