A Disney Store spokesperson has confirmed to Mickey From The UK that the Pop Up name on its new Cheshire Oaks outlet has nothing to do with how long the store will be open. The store, which opens at McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Cheshire Oaks in Ellesmere Port at 11am on Thursday 12th November 2026, is a permanent, long-term location. The name is a branding choice that sets it apart from Disney Store's US outlet stores and gives it its own identity for UK guests.

Read on for how Cheshire Oaks differs from the Westfield Pop Up and what to expect when you visit, plus how the UK Disney Store relaunch followed the 2021 closures.

The Disney Store Pop Up Name Confusion

Since the Disney Store Cheshire Oaks news came out, plenty of you have written in concerned that the Pop Up label hints at a short run. That's an understandable worry if you remember Westfield White City, which was branded as a Pop Up, described as a "limited-time pop-up Disney Store", and has since closed.

Cheshire Oaks shares the Pop Up name but is a different kind of store, as it's Disney Store's first UK outlet. Westfield was also branded as a Pop Up and was specifically advertised as limited-time, as were some earlier pop-up stores around the UK, which is likely where the concern over the Cheshire Oaks name came from. At Cheshire Oaks, the Pop Up branding does not mean it's a temporary location.

What The Pop Up Name Means For Cheshire Oaks

We asked Disney Store about the branding after it caused concern among some UK Disney fans. A Disney Store spokesperson confirmed to us that the store is permanent, and that the Pop Up name is a branding choice, which gives the outlet its own identity for UK guests and separates it from Disney Store's outlet stores in the US.

That puts Cheshire Oaks in a separate category from Westfield White City. Westfield was advertised as a limited-time Pop Up store, with the emphasis on limited-time, while Cheshire Oaks is an outlet that sells full-price new and seasonal products alongside discounted stock, with up to 40% off selected products. Outlet stores have been part of Disney Store's international business for several years, and this is the first time the format has come to the UK.

From UK Store Closures To A Disney Store Relaunch

On 22nd June 2021, our story Disney Stores Around The UK Appear To Be Closing Down reported that the Southampton store had closed for good, and that the Sunderland store had also closed.

A spokesperson for Marlands Shopping Centre linked the Southampton closure to a planned review by Disney of its physical stores across Europe, following a similar review in North America, and pointed to more shoppers buying through Disney's online platforms. Bob Chapek, Disney's CEO at the time, had also said on an earnings call that the company intended to remove some physical store locations in the US and Canada. He didn't single out the UK, but the European review took in the UK, and Southampton and Sunderland were among the closures.

Five years on, the relaunch of Disney Stores in the UK has been welcomed by plenty of fans, although the Pop Up name has caused some head-scratching. Disney Stores have opened inside Selfridges London, Selfridges Birmingham and Selfridges Manchester Trafford, and Cheshire Oaks is the first of these to use outlet pricing.

What Should You Expect When Visiting The Disney Store At Cheshire Oaks?

As a permanent, long-term location, the Cheshire Oaks store is somewhere you can come back to again and again at times that suit you. The Pop Up branding gives it the opportunity to have an identity of its own, setting it apart from Oxford Street and the Selfridges concessions. With savings of up to 40% on selected products, it's a chance to pick up Disney items at discounted prices in person.
