Disney Cruise Line Animator's Palate Review

When I first stepped into Animator's Palate, I was amazed. My favourite incarnation of Mickey Mouse is Steamboat Willie. So the first thing I noticed was the chairs.

I wondered if I could fit a couple in my suitcase. The restaurant is themed around Disney animation and art, with Disney movie sketches all over the walls. This is present throughout the entire restaurant, and even up to the ceiling.

We had Animator's Palate on our first night. So this was the first time we met our service team who would then be with us for all our nights on the cruise. When you're sat at your table, you're presented with two templates and a coloured pen each. After our server team introduced themselves, they told us to draw a character on our sheets of paper which will then be used later on in a show.

I had no idea what was going to happen with this, so we drew our characters and then handed them to our servers when we were finished.

Later on in the meal, your characters are brought to life in an animation show displayed on the screens all around the restaurant. If you want to watch it, see our Youtube video below. However, if you've booked Magic At Sea or planning to book, I wouldn't watch it, as it's something you will want to see for the first time in person.

The beautiful theme is extended to the cutlery and plates as well.

To start, we were presented with some delicious fresh breads and a garlic dip.

For starters, we had the sliced serrano ham and the black truffle pasta purseittes. The ham was tasty, and even though the cheese was a little strong for my taste, it was still very good. The black truffle pasta was very rich and creamy.

For our next course, we had creamy butternut squash and baked potato and cheddar cheese soup. The butternut squash soup was the best butternut squash soup I've had in my life. The potato and cheddar cheese soup was full of flavour with added bacon crisp which topped it off perfectly.

For our main course, we had the ginger-teriyaki dusted Angus beef tenderloin, served with wasabi mashed potatoes, bok choy, and tamarind-barbecue reduction. This was delicious. The beef was cooked really well and was so tender. While the mash potatoes were nothing worth shouting about, the tamarind-barbecue reduction was absolutely beautiful.

For dessert, we had the warm sticky date pudding and the Lemon icebox pie. The sticky date was nice, and the butterscotch was very strong and intense. The scoop of ice cream sits on top of a little biscuit as well which is a nice touch. The pie was tangy and melt-in-the-mouth good.

The restaurant lighting changes throughout the meal (depending on what's playing on the screen). There's some sorcerer Mickey, just in case you were worried!

Our servers, Elvin and Ariyasa, were great. The atmosphere of the restaurant was just fantastic. The food was spot on. The Disney animation theme which is carried throughout was amazing, and the show and musical numbers were was a brilliant welcome back to Disney dining and got us even more excited (if that were possible) for the rest of the cruise. It really was the perfect start to Magic At Sea.
