Update: Disney D-Light is no longer running. It was a limited-time drone show performed during the Disneyland Paris 30th anniversary celebrations, alongside Disney Illuminations. We've kept our full review below for anyone curious about what it was like, or looking back at how Disney marked the milestone.

During the Disneyland Paris 30th anniversary celebrations, Disney introduced a new show called Disney D-Light to go alongside its nighttime spectacular, Disney Illuminations. The show used 200 drones to light up the sky behind the castle. A pre-show happened before Disney Illuminations with projections on the castle, finishing with the drones sparkling in from nowhere and appearing above the castle.

It was a packed evening on the first night. There were many, many guests waiting to see this new show. When the projections ended and the drones came alive, I'd never seen a crowd brought to silence quite like this. I quickly looked around and everyone just stood with their eyes wide open, staring up above the castle at the big "30" formed in the sky. It was truly one of the most memorable experiences at any Disney park, ever. After a couple of minutes the lights dipped and Disney Illuminations took over. Once that finished, the drones came back out.

This time it was coupled with the song "Un Monde Qui S'illumine" and the cheers and dancing began. During this part the drones moved around more, forming a Mickey head, spinning around, and more.

While drones are nothing new, I always applaud when Disney takes technology and uses it to add a bit more magic in the parks. This was something I'd never witnessed in a Disney Park before, and it added a lot to the overall nighttime spectacular offering as a whole. Once you had the "Un Monde Qui S'illumine" song stuck in your head, you had an even better time when the drones came out during that part of the show. Disney gave us one more thing to look up into the sky above the castle and stare at in awe.

Our Verdict On Disney D-Light

This gets a full 5 out of 5 from me. It was a fantastic addition to the nighttime line-up during the 30th anniversary and easily one of the most memorable moments we've seen in a Disney park. While drone technology has improved and we've seen more incredible shows, nothing will beat seeing the giant "30" be written in the sky for the first time. It would be brilliant to see something similar make its way to Walt Disney World too.

Our reviews are based on our own visits, our own experience and our own money unless we say otherwise. We're honest with both the good and the not-so-good. When that happens, the aim isn't to put you off Disney - it's to point you towards a better option, whether that's a different restaurant, hotel or experience. We want your time and money going towards the parts of the trip that will make it even better - which is good for you, and good for Disney too.
